General Information

This program will prepare students for a career in hotel and tourism management and provide the industry knowledge needed for achieving entrepreneurial goals. The emphasis of this program is on the development of professional and managerial skills, and aims to increase the ability to understand and use management theory in the tourism sector. A significant aspect of the program is the combination of theory and practice, through the option of internships, work placement and site visits, which give students the chance of first hand experience of hotel and tourism sector. The main aim of the program is to equip students with the right skills and knowledge and competencies to compete in the tourism and hospitality industry. This is a four-year undergraduate degree program and the medium of instruction is English.

Goal & Objectives

The main objective of the program is to understand the importance of how the dynamics of Tourism and Hospitality, work together. The areas that are covered to equip the graduates with all the knowledge, skills and competencies are Recreation and Leisure Management, Behavioral Sciences in Tourism, Food and Beverage Services, Travel Geography, Accommodation Industry, General Principles of Human Resources Management, Travel Agency and Tour Operating, Tourism Law, Tourism Safety and Security Management, Business and Economics and Statistics as well.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are able to:
1. Demonstrate general knowledge of the nature of tourism and hospitality management in global context.
2. Explain the types of ownership and forms of organizational structure, the nature of operations management and managing quality.
3. Identify factors within tourism and hospitality that influence businesses.
4. Evaluate a small business from owner’s perspective and propose course of actions.
5. Analyze demographic, technological, and economic trends that are affecting the future growth of businesses in tourism and hospitality.
6. Illustrate the elements involved in planning and designing operation systems in tourism and hospitality.
7. Basic knowledge and understanding of ethical issues and socially responsible behaviors in tourism and hospitality businesses.
8. Apply critical thinking, creativity, teamwork and leadership skills in professional organizations in the tourism and hospitality industry.
9. Develop effective oral and written communication skills in tourism and hospitality businesses.

Career Opportunities

The Tourism and Hospitality Management program is designed to help students to develop themselves in theory as well as in practical way and enable them to compete in globally changing and developing job markets in the Travel and Tourism industry. Especially is designed in line with other programs, Business Administration and Banking and Finance and Information Technology to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies to enable them grab high paid jobs. Upon graduation these are some of the areas that our students may get jobs in the emerging markets. Travel and Tourism organizations, Hotels, Airlines, Holiday resorts, Government owned organizations, Some of the roles could be as follows: Managerial Accountant, Internal and external, Auditor, Governmental Auditor, Finance Director, International Business and Technology Manager, International Travel and Tourism management positions.

Learning Outcomes

Hospitality and Tourism Management Program Graduates will be able to:

2. Describe the roles and functions of a manager in the hospitality industry

4. Understand the importance of goal-setting and team-building
5. Apply production forecasting techniques and procedures
6. Evaluate food and beverage operations control processes
7. Recognize the importance of outstanding guest service quality, server-guest relationships, and ethics
8. Improve ability to exercise judgment and critically analyze problems
9. Apply and improve written, oral, and non-verbal communication skills
10. To provide the student with a “real life” experience in the hospitality industry.
11. To provide the students with an experiential learning opportunity at various levels of responsibility
