Embracing a student-centered education system, RDU prioritizes the academic and social needs of its students, fostering an educational approach that extends beyond classroom instruction to support students’ overall well-being and personal development.

The Faculty of Architecture and Engineering at Rauf Denktaş University, particularly the Department of Architecture, offers a contemporary and innovative education, providing students with opportunities for critical thinking, experiential learning, and hands-on application. In this context, the RDU Department of Architecture recently organized a technical observation trip to the Famagusta-Iskele region. Led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Gizem Güvenbaş, Asst. Prof. Dr. Doğa Üzümcüoğlu, and Lecturer Çılga Günaydın, the trip allowed architecture students to observe firsthand various architectural and historical structures from different periods.

The technical trip began with a visit to the Metgin Industrial Building, which reflects the characteristics of modern and sustainable architecture. RDU Architecture students were hosted by Engin Yeşilada, one of the founders of Metgin, who provided insights into the design and construction phases of the industrial building. Students had the opportunity to examine key areas such as the entrance hall, offices, and shared indoor and outdoor spaces, gaining detailed knowledge about sustainable design solutions and material usage that enhance functionality in industrial structures.

In the second phase of the trip, students visited Kalavaç Village, where they observed restored houses that have preserved the essence of traditional Cypriot architecture and cultural heritage.

The third phase included a visit to the Salamis Ruins, one of the most striking examples of ancient Cypriot architecture, which bears traces of both Ancient Roman and Greek influences. Among the most captivating structures for students were the Gymnasium, the remains of the Roman Villa, the Roman Theater, the Agora, and the Byzantine Water Cistern.

In the fourth and final phase, students explored the Grand Sapphire Resort and Residence, a representation of contemporary high-rise architecture and mixed-use functionality.
